This is on me. And as I write this today, I've been thinking about how much time we have left until the end of 2022 ,2023 and I'm looking over at my very own blog to understand what I should do with it and if I don't take action yet! Maybe even go back and see how far I've come in the past two years! So my first question for myself was...is blogging still a thing? Well, yes in some way that's true, but not like I had any concept as to why blog writing was cool! Back when I blogged about sports and things like that...I wasn't making money from it yet!
So this week however you may ask...is blogging still a thing? We are definitely "still young" so I think if we keep going down that path (with my help of course), we will go along just fine. However, we know there are many ways to make blogging be great such as YouTube and Instagram (which I will try to talk about another day). The best part is I know now, that one of the most common reasons bloggers stop having blog ideas can be because they just get bored or their thoughts get repetitive and don't want to write anymore. So this makes blogging a bit trickier even though it's something people have been doing for the longest time, it becomes easier to create new content for your blog. But like all things, like anything else you need to consider the right timing. You need to decide when and where to post content or when and where to focus more on SEO. That makes blogging a lot more tricky than other types of content creators. When I started out when I wrote my first post, I didn't have any idea of the importance of blogging on my life and how useful it would be for it's own sake; because I was really struggling. But since then the amount of times I see people post the same stuff over and over again, I feel like I have become less interested in it and as I spend longer and longer time on posts and reading comments I feel like I finally got the hang of it. In a recent Youtube video, the singer Lady Gaga talked about blogging & being a woman who wants to share her voice and find the right person who is going to give her the confidence needed for her brand. And as I watched she said that when someone grows up, someone in her family/friends gets passed around to get the right job out of her. Meaning that, when you turn 18 you're either going to go to work or teach at school and if you decide to stay home, you're no longer allowed to pursue your education. She made it seem like that everyone has no say in what your career choice is as you just get passed around to people who are going to do things right for you. And in saying that...that's exactly what I did when coming to Medium. I started blogging as a hobby to keep myself busy during time's I wasn't working and after publishing 3 posts in the whole year and only getting 1...I felt that I wasn't doing anything that would grow my audience because I wasn't posting interesting content or anything in-depth and I didn't even have any real subscribers yet. Because of the low interest I felt I decided to stick with my original blog topic and hope to get better and better at it (and that means good in-depth content and a little bit of luck with a few friends). But you see, after 2 months into blogging on Tumblr without even having a single article published it became apparent to me that the lack of consistency was actually hurting my blog, making me feel hopeless because I wasn't creating quality content and I wasn't getting the views of people who were interested in my stuff. So I decided to start trying different approaches to writing. There are lots of sites that offer bloggers templates to use (as well as many resources around here) so I decided to look at these ones first. After a couple of pages of research, I chose Notion (I don't know about anyone else but Notion looks like it's the tool I'm going to choose for my first blog post). It was very easy to get used to and it has several plugins that allow you to make your own blog (I'll show what those are later in this piece). To use Notion, I needed to signup through my profile and download Notion from their website. I would then just open Notion in Chrome and it is basically a code editor so you just have to type in your title and put it into their box and hit enter. Which was honestly pretty nice...but let me tell you, once I made those changes I couldn't stop writing and I feel like this site could be quite impressive because of it. There are currently over 40 articles on my blog written by me, mostly fiction stories which aren't very popular (so the majority of them are horror story or fantasy). But I'm sure that because I tried a few different options I learned the hard way that nobody likes short story posts more then long posts and I want to change that. So I'm planning on starting off with not one long story every week, but maybe split it up into a little 5-10 minute section and start with telling people a small tale before expanding on it into longer pieces and hopefully gain followers in the process. Then you know I want to write bigger and better short stories, which might help me attract readers from other countries. Eventually, I want to add other styles to blog posts and a newsletter so we'll see what happens! If you want more content like me, come follow my channel! You can also check out my Wattpad story! Hope my story helps give you some tips in making blogging be the greatest thing!
